Faculty Member, History
About
Sarah Lloyd has two main strands of research. She has worked longest on the histories of charity and poor relief in Britain during the 18th century. This has generated further enquiries into the broader cultural contexts of that period, including: an exploration of tickets, coins and tokens; an interdisciplinary study of adultery trial literature; and histories of cottage life and a demotic sense of home. Over the last couple of years, she has also become interested in public history and is currently involved with a number of Hertfordshire projects. Her particular focus here is in capturing experiences of place and exploring their historical resonances for general audiences.
