About
BA.Hons in English Literature and Language : Hertford College, University of Oxford (1985-8); MA in Restoration and 18th-C Literature : University of East Anglia (1998); Ph.D on 'Daniel Defoe, Rhetoric and Nonconformity' : University of East Anglia (2005)
I've been teaching at the University of Hertfordshire since obtaining my Ph.D. My principal research interests are in Daniel Defoe's writing (especially his non-fiction) and the early modern funeral sermon (especially the Nonconformists). I am also keen on wider aspects of British cultural history in the long eighteenth century : London, dissenting history, early periodicals, colonialism and trade.
